Emily's Winter

Barely managing to shut the doors against the wind, Emily came inside and let out a resounding "humph". As her sister Maude looked up from her reading and gave a vague smile,

Emily proceeded on. "King Solomon said that there's a time and place for everything, I must say though, that I've yet to agree with a time or place for the season of Winter."

"Than my dear Emily" responded Maude, "you've been born into the wrong family...New Englanders, and if you possibly have it to do over next time you ought to pick a warmer familial bond of folks living somewhere in the West Indies". Emily looked at her sister from the side of her eyes with one or two thoughts about simply being born into a family without Maude. Than she smiled, Maude may be sarcastic, but she was after all...her sister.
